Marc Truant & Associates' leadership role in sustainable building practices results in another LEED certification for a Truant project

For the second time within a year, one of the company's building projects was awarded LEED certification. The LEED®-CI certification was awarded to the 6,400 square foot office headquarters of Gravestar, Inc. by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program from the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED-CI certification acknowledges commercial interior building. Last year, another Truant project received the First LEED Silver certification for a home in metropolitan Boston.

The LEED-CI certification for Gravestar, Inc. recognizes the innovative and environmentally-sustainable building solutions incorporated throughout the office space, such as bamboo millwork, cork floors and countertops containing recycled glass, and skylights over common areas that maximize natural light. The project also included complete window replacement with energy efficient double glazed windows, lo-voc painting and solvents, as well as a new roof deck in full ADA-compliance. LEED is a program administered by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) setting national standards for green building design. The rating system was developed by the USGBC to promote environmentally friendly design and to reduce misleading and exaggerated environmental claims.

Marc Truant & Associates, Inc. has taken a leadership role in the building community for their sustainable construction practices. The company partners with clients and architects, who share this commitment to creating environmentally 'healthy' buildings. The project managers are LEED® Accredited Professionals and Marc Truant & Associates is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council.

Big, Green and Fast: High-performance Design and Construction in the High-end Residential Market

"GREAT presentation, and I'm very impressed at your team for singing the praises of integrated design – you're a living example of how well it works."
Amy Bauman, Director of Business Development, greenGoat

Over 50 people attended the workshop led by Marc Truant & Associates, Inc., Miller/Boehm Architects and Highmark Landscape Design on the first day of Build Boston's Residential Design 2006 convention and tradeshow.

The building and design professionals shared their experience implementing environmentally responsible design and construction alternatives for a large private residence. Selected to be one of the first pilot projects for the LEED® for Homes program, this custom home incorporated "green" materials and methods while being built on an accelerated schedule. The panelists discussed their efforts to realize sustainable intentions affecting the house's structure, building envelope, energy consumption/production, material selection, site work, and construction waste management.

Extensive research of materials, and collaboration among all team members and trades were required from the start to make this project a success. "'Green' technology is only one part of the puzzle," said Tom Weathers, one of the Truant project managers for the residence. "A sustainable project only succeeds with 'conscious and conscientious' best standard practices at all levels – from a safe work environment and waste management to material procurement and project management and collaboration."
